Unsurprisingly, the movie flopped at the Box Office.Canvas wall art print entitled, "Miami Vice (TV) (1984)." Pilot for the popular TV series paired Crockett and Tubbs for the first time on the trail of a killer in Miami's sleazy underground. But to be fair, there wasn’t too much to enjoy in the reboot despite the big cast, gorgeous locations, and beautiful Ferrari. In the 2006 reboot, viewers can see Colin Farrell driving a mid-mounted 476 hp 4.3-liter V8 Ferrari F430 Spider, according to Car Magazine. Furthermore, the collaboration between Ferrari and Miami Vice seems to have worked so well that in the late 2000s, the Italian car manufacturer agreed again to borrow one of its cars to production. Even more, Ferrari donated two 1986 Ferrari Testarossas to be used in the hit show. In the end, production and Ferrari came to an understanding, and both sides avoided the huge lawsuit. The Italian automaker demanded that McBurnie and the Miami Vice team shouldn’t build other Ferrari replicas and stop filming the bogus cars. Needless to say that Ferrari filed a lawsuit against McBurnie and other crew members. Imagine wearing a bogus Louis Vuitton bag in Gossip Girl or The O.C., Bernard Arnault and the entire LVMH Moët Hennessy board would immediately go into crisis mode. But when the series gained traction and the cool kids went gaga for the music and Don Johnson’s pastel suits, Ferrari became very upset because production used replicas, which lets face it is copyright infringement. Also, when approached about a possible collaboration, Ferrari North America wasn’t interested in the partnership because it didn’t see any value in the series and probably thought it will only delude the brand. But the majority of viewers are unaware of a problem with the car. Evidently, production has selected to build its own replicas than buy some super expensive Ferrari vehicles because of the huge costs associated with the Prancing Horsecars.Īt the start no one knew how successful the TV series would be, so the budget was quite low. The Real Story Behind The Ferrari Daytona In Miami Vice via: Watching Miami Vice obsessively, it is almost impossible not to love the 1972 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder featured in the hit series. Supposedly, production wanted one for glamour shots or close-ups and a second replica was supposed to be used in stunts and some dangerous driving scenes. Tom McBurnie of McBurnie Coachcraft built the two Ferrari replicas on the Corvette C3 chassis. Talk about deceiving viewers in a huge way and still creating a timeless TV series! Interestingly enough, the replica managed to appear in two complete Miami Vice seasons. Watch on YouTube This series is largely remembered for the stylish clothes Detectives Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs wore, the soundtrack, and its distinct visuals. The 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder wasn’t a genuine Ferrari, but a replica, which got production in hot waters with the Italian car manufacturer. ![]() Watching Miami Vice obsessively, it is almost impossible not to love the 1972 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder featured in the hit series. ![]()
